National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities

Synopsis by MobiLife, Power Wheel Chairs

The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities is a center dedicated to families, educators, administrators, journalists, and students that provides a wide variety of information regarding disabilities. The main concern and purpose for the center are children and youth, which range from birth to age 22. By visiting this site, you will be able to research for information, connect with others, have your questions answered, and allow you to get information that tailors your unique needs and concerns. Also, the center offers publication in both English and Spanish, for just a small cost-recovery fee.

In 1975, Congress passed a law called Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which tailors to children with disabilities to ensure they are given the same opportunity as other children regarding free, appropriate public education. Since it first came to law, it has been revised several times, however, the most recent time was back in August of 2006. NICHCY is dedicated to helping improve and provide information and services to help those who are or who have children with disabilities. Some of the main links the Center has to offer for information are the following: specific disabilities, services tailored to infants and toddlers, education services for school aged children, information on the most effective education practices, disability organizations, rights and laws offered for people with disabilities, and much more. Whether it's information on power wheel chairs or education programs, NICHCY will be more than happy to help you find it.

Without funding from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and the Center's partnerships, the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities would not be able to provide the abundance of services and information it does. OSEP is a program that is also dedicated to helping children and their families regarding disabilities through leadership and financial support. The Consortium for Appropriate Dispute Resolution in Special Education and the Family Center on Technology and Disability are two special partnerships that NICHCY have that are also funded by OSEP.
