Amputee Coalition of America
Synopsis by MobiLife, Power Wheel Chairs
The Amputee Coalition of America was created to help and motivate those who were born with a limb or have experienced amputations reach their fullest potential. In order to achieve this goal, ACA developed three programs: Education, Support, and Advocacy
Through the Education Program, ACA provides amputees and people with limbs information through educational resources, video tapes, booklets, and fact sheets so they may gain knowledge and skills to help them improve their quality of life. This Program also works with the National Limb Loss Information Center that gives specific information for amputation and rehabilitation. Also, Programs are created that educate members, healthcare professionals, and the public in regards to emotional and physical technological such as power wheel chairs, prosthetics, and other products so they can live a more independent life. They also offer other information on issues for those with amputees. Technical help, information, and training are provided through support and local amputee educational organizations as well. For those with amputees or born with a limb, the ACA developed the Support Program that allows them, their families, and care providers to gain resources and find answers through their toll-free hotline and the inMotion magazine. By calling the hotline, an individual can connect to peer support groups and training. The magazine covers all aspects of concern or interest that an amputee or those who know or care for a person with an amputee need. The Advocacy Program was developed to follow the Americans with Disabilities Act in order to stand up for their rights so they can improve and lead a life filled with abundance. By doing so, people with limb loss or amputations can gain information, quality devices, and have full access to participate in society. Also, they are able to work with legislation, society, and healthcare professionals to inform them on the issues and concerns the amputee community has that can possible help make life for them easier and more fulfilled.
